Skoda won last weekend’s Rally of Spain and with it the Super 2000 World Rally Championship. The Red Bull Skoda team of Juho Hanninen and Mikko Markkula, driving a Skoda Fabia, had led the championship all year, but a hiccup at the French rally, where they lost two minutes to a puncture, meant they only had a three point lead going into the final event.
The Fabia completed the 18 stages of Spain, across tarmac and gravel and brought their car across the line in first place to claim Skoda’s first rally title.
The Super World Rally is a companion rally series to the World Rally Championships and is driven over the same stages; however, the S-WRC is limited to production-based cars homologated under the super 2000 rules.
