‘Fast and frugal’ are the keywords for the new A6 with the new 3.0 TDI V6 motor. FAST - With the A6 going from 0 – 100km/h in 5.1seconds it is the quickest diesel-powered vehicle in Australia – and, FRUGAL - with fuel consumption down at 6.4 litres per 100 kilometres it ensures it comes under the luxury tax threshold giving it a distinct price advantage over its rivals.
Audi has just launched its latest diesel motor into Australia with great emphasis placed on its heritage – the R10 Le Mans 24hr winning engines. The 3.0 TDI Biturbo (ie two turbos) is now offered as part of the “A6” and the “A7 sportback” offerings giving Audi diesel power in all segments except the R8.
This new V6 is aided by a ZF eight-speed auto that is exclusive to the Biturbo diesel, and is better able to cope with the extra torque than the seven-speed dual-clutch autos found in the other V6 petrol and diesel variants.
Audi’s new twin-turbo diesel is related to the other 3.0-litre TDI but is 4kg lighter (to 209kg) and features a number of significant upgrades that include revised cylinder head, lowered compression ratio, improved piston cooling and of course those two sequential turbos that help produce 230kW and 650Nm. It is positioned at the top of the A6 range, just below the V8 powered S6 and above the supercharged v6 petrol 3.0 tfsi and the single turbo 3.0 TDI.
And while the A6 Biturbo is quick, it is still the segment benchmark for quality and design with standard equipment on the A6 Biturbo including 18-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels; Audi drive-select; Audi music interface, parking sensors and rear view camera; BOSE stereo; Bluetooth with audio streaming; keyless entry and ignition; sunroof; satnav with touch pad; and Milano leather seats and trim.
